In 2020, I moved from the Portal group as a contractor to work as a FTE Technical Artist on Facebook Avatars, a customizable sticker emoji product resembling Snapchat’s Bitmoji. My efforts have helped scale the product from a target user base of 10 million to over 200 million and over 20 billion stickers created to date.
My duties included creating tools and workflows for porting 2D assets from Photoshop into a 2.5D Maya pipeline in Python and Javascript. This included creating guis in PyQt and creating Photoshop extensions with the CEP API in Javascript/Extendscript. I’ve also coded GLSL shaders to make our product more performant, written tools to process glb/gltf files, and programmed rendering tools out of Maya.
